Chickasaw County issues RFP and sets May 26 public hearing for courthouse window project
Summary
Supervisors authorized release of an RFP for an estimated 71‑opening courthouse window replacement, set a public hearing for May 26, and included a Dec. 31, 2026 completion deadline with liquidated damages of $1,000 per day.
The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on May 4 approved issuing an RFP for a courthouse window project and set a public hearing on the public‑improvement project for May 26 in the boardroom.
Staff described the scope as roughly 71 window openings (a mix of north and south elevations) and said doors are excluded from the specs. The bid documents call for a completion date of Dec. 31, 2026, with liquidated damages of $1,000 per day for failure to meet the deadline. "We did put a completion date of 12/31/2026, and then like we did with the elevator project, liquidated damages thousand bucks thereafter per day," the Chair said during the discussion.
Facilities staff also urged the board to consider professionally power‑washing the limestone exterior before window installation; facilities manager David Gorman told the board that vendors have raised concerns about lift rental and after‑hours work but estimated the cleaning would likely be under $10,000. "I don't think it'll be over $10,000," Gorman said.
The board authorized the county attorney and staff to finalize the bid documents and to publish the RFP; they discussed adjusting the bid opening date to avoid a holiday and set the public hearing for May 26 to allow public review before award.
Separately, staff reported on courthouse systems: a recent HVAC inspection identified a failed compressor covered under warranty and Standard Electric will perform a scheduled power conversion beginning the next day, work staff said could take a few nights to complete.
Next steps: the county will publish the RFP and notices, receive sealed bids by the advertised deadline, hold the May 26 public hearing, and return to the board to open bids and consider award.
