Assistant Superintendent Heather Stoner outlined the multi‑step selection process: campus librarians curate lists using professional review journals (School Library Journal, Booklist, Kirkus), align items to age/grade bands, and submit lists for public posting and LSAC review. Stoner said opening‑day collections required vendor title‑matching to fill series gaps and provide nonfiction on emergent topics.
Jennifer King, a parent and LSAC voting member, said the parent committee met twice to review roughly 11,000 titles. To help manage the volume the group used a custom GPT tool to extract recommended grade bands, surface flagged content areas (language, violence, substance use, sensitive themes) and summarize whether titles had community feedback. The LSAC reviewed flagged items individually and voted on recommendations; most titles had no feedback and were approved by consent, while about 15 titles generated discussion and individual votes.
Trustees praised the librarians and LSAC volunteers for thorough work, including the use of AI for triage while acknowledging its limits. Trustee Chrissy Hargrove moved to approve the LSAC recommendations (including both recommended and non‑recommended titles as indicated); Trustee Chris Neighbors seconded. The board approved the purchase as presented.
