North Pocono honors two seniors for academic, extracurricular achievements

At the April 9 meeting of the North Pocono School District Board of Education, the board's student-recognition segment honored two seniors for academic and extracurricular accomplishments.
Marley Darenzes was recognized for completing a rigorous course load and for leadership in Science Olympiad, where she served as invitational director and chairman. According to the presentation, Darenzes will have completed 10 Advanced Placement courses by graduation, has been a National Honor Society member, and will attend Hood College as part of its honors program to study biochemistry on a pre-med track while continuing her soccer career.
After the board's introduction, Darenzes thanked her parents and members of the teaching staff and specifically named faculty who supported her work in Science Olympiad.
Madison Hance was also recognized for academic distinction. The board noted Hance has taken nine AP classes, is in the top 10% of her class, and achieved multiple gold medals on the national Latin exam; she will attend Franklin & Marshall College. In brief remarks, Hance thanked teachers and a coach who encouraged her interest in Latin.
The recognitions were part of a broader set of reports on student successes in regionals: the superintendent later listed that North Pocono students secured 34 first-place and 11 second-place awards at a regional Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition and named other students advancing to state competitions and scholarship winners.
The board monthly recognition segment is used to highlight academic, extracurricular and scholarship achievements and to announce upcoming student events, including senior send-off activities and a student-run community service initiative.
