Robertson County Schools approve $86,600 budget amendment as revenues exceed expenditures

The Robertson County School Board on March 9 approved a balanced budget amendment to allocate $86,600 in state and local grant revenues to specific line items and forwarded the amendment to the county budget commission.

Dr. Weeks, delivering the district's financial report, said year-to-date revenues stood at about $84,300,000 while expenditures were about $82,900,000 — "so $1,400,000, to the good, roughly." He told the board that property and sales tax receipts were running around $22,000,000 and that the district had seen overall revenues come in slightly ahead of projections.

The board approved the budget amendment by voice vote, 6—0, after Dr. Weeks asked members to authorize the classifications required to send the amendment on to the county budget commission. The amendment records $86,600 in new grant revenues to be distributed across several line items as listed in the board packet.

Dr. Weeks also flagged a projected double-digit increase in employee health insurance costs, estimating a 10—12% rise for the coming plan year. He said that such an increase "will greatly impact our budget and plans" and that staff had begun incorporating that projection into next year's planning.

Board members did not request additional action at the meeting; the approved amendment will proceed to the county budget commission for its review and any further requirements.

The board also reviewed the district's expense comparison report and was told the district is tracking large expenditures such as electricity, diesel and insurance as it prepares next year's budget.
