Planning staff presented the Glenmont Corridors Opportunity Study to the Montgomery County Planning, Housing, and Parks Committee, outlining strategies to encourage mixed-use development around the Glenmont Metro Station and to improve multimodal access and public spaces for the area.
Zubin Adrienwala of East County Planning said the study’s goals were “to meaningfully introduce mixed use development in the area, promote affordable and diverse housing types, enhance a multimodal transportation network, and then create inviting open spaces that serve the community.” The presentation used an in-house multimodal GIS analysis to map walking, biking and transit access across the study area.
The study area, Adrienwala said, combines the Glenmont sector plan, properties along Georgia and Randolph corridors and a roughly one-mile (20-minute walk) shed around the Glenmont Metro Station. Staff reported the study area has a large Hispanic/Latino population (about 51%), a median household…
