County environmental director announces May 27 Douglas County Trails Plan interactive workshop

Kent Holm, Douglas County environmental services director, told commissioners on May 5 that the county’s Trails Plan update consultant will hold an interactive workshop at the Western Douglas County Collaborative meeting on May 27 to solicit input on planned trail alignments and bridge accommodations.
"We're actually going to have our consultant that's working on the Douglas County Trails Plan update to have an interactive workshop there," Holm said, inviting interested residents and stakeholders to participate. He explained that Douglas County’s role is primarily planning and coordination while cities and the Natural Resources District (NRD) generally maintain trail sections within their jurisdictions.
Holm said the planning effort is important because it identifies where trails are expected in the future and allows bridge designs and private-development cost-sharing to account for trail provisions early in the process, which saves taxpayer dollars over time.
The county encouraged attendance at the May 27 meeting to provide input to the consultant and help shape where future trails and crossings are planned.
