The Waupaca Common Council voted to approve street closures for the 2026 Waupaca Area Triathlon and approved two business license items for a Fulton Street truck stop during its regular meeting.
Jeff Anderson, introduced as president and CEO of the Waupaca Area Chamber and Visitor Bureau and serving as chair of the triathlon committee, asked the council to approve street closures on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15 for the race. "So the request tonight is a carbon copy of the request from last year," Anderson said, asking councilors to adopt the closure plan included in the meeting packet. The council approved the request by roll call, 10-0.
The council then considered license report number 1755, a transfer of a beer license for Burgers and Brews LLC doing business as Truckers Lounge at 1222 West Fulton Street. An applicant described plans for a lounge offering seating, games and business-center amenities for overnight drivers; the council approved the license by roll call, 10-0.
License report number 1756, an additional license for arcade and gaming devices at the same location, was also presented and approved; the meeting record shows the motion carried (recorded tally in the transcript: 8 ayes with two members recorded as opposing votes). Councilors moved and seconded the motions as recorded in the minutes.
The approvals were procedural votes recorded by roll call; no ordinance changes or conditions beyond the licensing approvals and the street-closure permits were taken at the meeting.
