Williams said the PSAP will assume police non‑emergency (crime‑check) calls in October 2026, begin dispatching Spokane Fire Department on Jan. 1, 2027 and plans to start answering city 9‑1‑1 calls on Jan. 1, 2028. He said the city negotiated continued support from the current phone‑system vendor (Lumen), giving staff more time to configure a full phone replacement without rushing into a two‑phase cutover.
Technical work is underway on CAD and recording systems, with vendor configuration and operational staffing plans progressing. Williams said building refurbishments to prepare the PSAP facility will begin later in May, with furniture demos arriving as part of preparations for the call‑taker workforce.
Williams said hiring of operational staff is proceeding and that manager interviews concluded last week with offers expected soon; some job descriptions require partner concurrence and civil‑service processes before recruitment can move forward.
Council members had no additional questions at the meeting; Williams said the team will return monthly with status updates.
