Norwalk council approves I-605/Studebaker intersection contracts and a sewer lift-station budget amendment

The Norwalk City Council on April 21 approved a package of construction and engineering actions for two infrastructure projects.
On project 7195, staff reported seven bids were publicly opened and recommended awarding the construction contract to the lowest responsive bidder (Dash Construction Company) for approximately $999,000, with a 15% contingency for construction contingency; staff also recommended awarding construction-management and inspection contracts to selected engineering firms and authorizing the city manager to execute the contracts. Staff said the project is funded through Metropolitan Transportation Authority measure funds and uses no city general-fund dollars. Mayor Perez moved the item and the council approved it by roll call.
On project 7527, the council considered a staff request to amend the FY25'6 budget and authorize Amendment No. 1 to the professional-services agreement with Civiltech Engineering for additional electrical design services (not to exceed about $20,000) to upgrade the lift station alarm system to be compatible with a future SCADA system. Staff said funding for the additional design services will come from unencumbered sewer enterprise funds. Council members moved, seconded and adopted the resolution and budget amendment by roll call.
Councilors asked for follow-up and clearer communications to residents who will be affected by construction along the Alondra corridor and discussed coordination with neighboring Cerritos on the work that extends across the city border.
