Solano County proclaims March 2025 Public Procurement Month, honors purchasing team

The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution recognizing March 2025 as Public Procurement Month and presented an award to the county purchasing team, approving the measure by a 3-0 vote.

The resolution acknowledged the central role of the county's purchasing staff in sourcing, inspecting and acquiring goods and services for county operations. "It's the process of sourcing, purchasing, receiving, inspecting all goods and services for the operational needs," a board member said as the board moved to adopt the measure.

Megan Grevey, Solano County's general services director, introduced the team and said the unit is "small but mighty," operating with vacancies while handling countywide procurement. "We do have a manager in 4 positions, 2 of which are currently not hired... So we're down to 2 that are buying everything that you and the county want to have," Grevey said.

Lorraine, the county's procurement manager, highlighted the group's 2024 workload and an industry award: "Over the prior year, the team processed almost 2,600 purchase orders, 103 formal bids, and 300 informal bids. I'm also proud to highlight that our...team was awarded the Achievement of Excellence Award in Procurement in 2024 by the National Procurement Institute," she said. The manager emphasized the team's focus on transparency, fiscal responsibility and compliance with government codes.

Buyers who introduced themselves included Nesmith Despervalides and Yumika Wright, CPPB; Donovan Villard was identified as the CalCard program administrator. Board members thanked the staff and invited them to pose for a photo outside the meeting chamber.

The board took no other formal action related to procurement at the session and moved on to the remainder of the agenda.
