Civic Theater tells council it needs continued support for licensing and youth programs

Nancy McIntosh, executive director of the Lewiston Civic Theater, updated the council on the theater’s service agreement and operating needs during the May 4 work session.
McIntosh said the theater is finishing its 2025–26 season and is in rehearsal for Mamma Mia, opening June 12. She described season costs between $10,000 and $25,000 per show and said licensing fees account for roughly half of the municipal support the theater receives. “For instance... it cost us between $10,000 and $25,000 a show to put on a show,” McIntosh said, and explained money goes to licensing, costumes, sets and advertising.
She introduced lead performer Heidi Santiago and volunteer director Michael Keane, and described youth programming that engages more than 30 children in acting classes and two summer kids’ shows. McIntosh said the theater has recently shared proceeds with local nonprofits and continues to operate out of the old Lewiston High School facility with the school district’s permission.
What happens next: the council received the update; McIntosh said the theater will return as needed to discuss the service agreement in future budget conversations and to update the council on participation and season finances.
