The Genesee County Senior Task Force agreed to a structured public-input process and discussed how best to ensure its recommendations reach county decision-makers.
Chair (speaker 1) noted the group’s charge from the Genesee County Board of Commissioners and reminded members that written recommendations are due by June 1, 2026. The chair asked staff to incorporate public input into packets and to ensure transparency around the task force’s work.
Staff (Brad) described the public contact workflow: an email address posted with agendas will receive public comments and inquiries; those messages will be compiled monthly, distributed to task force members and included in meeting packets. Brad also said media requests should be forwarded to the Genesee County director of communications, Jared, so the county can respond consistently.
Members debated whether commissioners receive timely briefings and recommended building a blueprint for how information flows from staff and this task force to the Board. One member suggested the task force recommend periodic reviews of millage-funded programs so commissioners have regular, comparable data. "We could take that as a recommendation," a member said, urging a clearer systemic process so recommendations are actionable by the Board.
The chair requested staff to confirm invited presenters for the February meeting; Greater Flint Health Coalition was confirmed and staff continued outreach to University of Michigan–Flint and state contacts. The chair announced the March 5 meeting would be moved to March 12, and staff agreed to update the website and notifications.
A motion to adjourn was made and the chair closed the meeting after the motion carried. The task force will continue to request follow-up data from Valley Area Agency on Aging and expects to use compiled public emails and packet materials as it develops recommendations to present to the Board of Commissioners.
