Omaha council approves series of routine permits, rezoning and commemorative namings in 6–0 votes

The Omaha City Council on March 17 approved a set of routine and agenda items by unanimous votes, including a Class I liquor license for the German American Society (Item 6), multiple rezoning and plat approvals (Items 8–11), a package of items 15–27 that included renewal of a HOME program consortium allocation with Council Bluffs, an amendment to a tax-increment financing agreement for the Moriah Intergenerational Center (Item 28), and commemorative street namings (Items 29 and 30).

Roll calls for several contested or noticed items recorded motions and seconders and concluded with "Motion passed 6 to 0" on each item where a vote occurred. On item 25, Planning Department staff and the council explained that Omaha, as an entitlement community, can administer HOME funds in a consortium so adjacent Council Bluffs can receive an allocation they have not used in prior years; staff said Omaha retains 10% for administrative costs. The council also accepted a planning board recommendation and planning department review as the basis for several approvals. Items 33–52 were listed as non-action items to be scheduled for future public hearings.

Not all agenda items required or received votes at the meeting; Item 31 (an agreement with Metropolitan Utilities District for sewer use fee collection) had a public hearing but no decision at the March 17 meeting. The council adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
