The board discussed naming conventions and wording — whether to use "Kim Miller" or "Kimberly D. Miller" and whether to include an official title. Chair asked staff to size signage appropriately so it would be visible from the cafeteria rather than a small plaque that required viewers to stand close. Trustees also raised maintenance questions and stressed they did not want an ongoing maintenance burden for the district; suggestions included involving the Bluefield faculty senate or community garden clubs to help with upkeep.
Board members asked staff to obtain quotes for lettering and a proposed dedication plan and return with cost estimates. Several members expressed a target of completing the installation before the end of the current school year, if procurement and production timelines allowed. No formal vote was taken; the board directed staff to produce designs and pricing for a future meeting.
Next steps: staff will gather vendor quotes and a recommended inscription, and the board will review the final proposal and cost once available.
