Council authorizes DuraEdge contract to renovate Evanston High School baseball field

The Evanston City Council on Feb. 4 approved Resolution 25-08 authorizing an agreement with DuraEdge Products Inc. to perform infield and turf renovation work at the Evanston High School baseball field.
Kim Larson of Evanston Parks and Recreation said the city owns the high-school field and the Parks and Rec District maintains it under an operating agreement. "The Parks and Rec District was able to save quite a bit of money on our locker room project," Larson said, and officials proposed using those savings to give the high-school field a needed face lift ahead of a major tournament. Larson said the project will be short by about $6,000 and that the Evanston youth baseball board or the Parks and Rec District could cover the remainder.
Council members questioned whether the work would also remedy other fields and whether the materials and local hiring preferences were included. Larson said DuraEdge has worked in the community before and typically uses local workers when feasible; staff noted the company lives in Morgan, Utah. After discussion the council moved, seconded and approved the resolution.
The resolution authorizes staff to execute the contract; Parks and Rec will coordinate timing to be ready for upcoming tournaments.
