McKenzie Parson made the motion to nominate Alex LaFortune for chair; an unnamed member seconded. The council proceeded with a roll-call style vote and the facilitator announced that the motion passed. Later, Sarah Zicki moved to nominate Charlotte Barnes for vice chair; an unnamed member seconded and the motion passed.
The votes followed a brief orientation on parliamentary procedure by Webb Pierce, the city clerk, who explained how motions, seconds, public comment and votes work under Robert''s Rules of Order. Pierce also reviewed restrictions under Florida''s Sunshine Law and the difference between personal notes and public records.
Members followed the procedures described by staff: nominations, a second, an opportunity for discussion, and then a vote. After the chair election, Alex LaFortune took the gavel and led the subsequent discussion.
No formal amendments to either nomination were recorded. The meeting record shows the motions were made, seconded and announced as passed by the facilitator; the transcript does not record a separate roll-call tally with full last names for every voter.
The council will use the chair and vice chair roles to run future meetings, following the parliamentary and Sunshine Law guidance provided tonight. The meeting adjourned after members discussed upcoming agenda items and outreach plans.
