Councilmember Daley explained the adjustment follows the refuse contractor Republic's rate increases and said the city will apply an annual 5% adjustment. Daley presented the first-year impact as an increase of about $0.45–$0.46 per residential cart. "Each year, we'll have a 5% increase, same as, Republic is increasing ours," Daley said.
Daley added the existing contract had been structured as a five-year contract with two optional years, which the contractor declined, and the council did not propose additional immediate changes to the contract during the meeting. Council approved the resolution after a motion and second and a roll-call vote.
City staff noted a fee schedule attachment is available so councilmembers can discuss the change with constituents; the council did not specify an effective date beyond the change to appendix 2 of the city code.
