The Port Orange City Council voted unanimously to authorize renaming the Lakeside Community Center the Allen Green Center, a move council members said recognizes decades of local civic work.
Susan Ball, the city’s parks and recreation director, told the council the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommended the change and that lettering and other renaming costs are “a little under $5,000,” which can be absorbed in the current budget. She said the council will open a 30‑day public comment period before final execution.
Mayor Scott Stiltner praised Green’s long service and urged the council to honor that legacy. “His legacy and his commitment to the city has been amazing,” Stiltner said, later adding that he hoped future generations “will see that name on that building and ask those questions.”
Councilmember (voice 3) made the motion to authorize the renaming; Councilmember (voice 14) seconded. The clerk called the roll and the motion passed 5–0.
The renaming will return after the 30‑day comment period for final administrative steps, and council members discussed coordinating any public recognition with upcoming Fourth of July events if signage and timing allow.
