Menifee officials outline retail interest on Newport Road and multi-year interchange plans

At the District 2 town hall, Menifee economic development and public works staff gave residents an overview of local retail activity and long-range transportation projects.
Kayla Charters, Menifee’s economic development director, listed several projects under review or in planning: Planet Fitness near Sprouts, Ritchie’s Diner and other new restaurants, a near-complete Hampton Inn & Suites off I-15 and Antelope Road, and retail tenants moving through planning at Menifee Boardwalk and other centers. She said a Kaiser Permanente medical office and other medical-office prospects are in process. On Costco, Charters said the company is conducting early due diligence and processing a preliminary application but is not finalized: "It's very, very, very early in the process," she said.
Public Works Director Nick Fiddler framed traffic solutions as a long-term program. He described the Holland Road Overpass as an overpass rather than a full interchange and said a potential new interchange at Garboni Road is in the project approval and environmental document phase; that PA/ED stage and subsequent final design mean a 4–6 year horizon before construction. Fiddler also outlined McCall interchange widening and a Scott Road widening project now at 60% design, with federal funding and environmental steps dictating next phases.
Fiddler said the city is pursuing a mix of smaller, quicker fixes — for example a right-turn deceleration lane to relieve school-related congestion — alongside longer-term interchange work that requires right-of-way and environmental reviews. He emphasized coordination with county and regional partners on projects that cross jurisdictional boundaries.
City staff said the city will return recommendations to council on traffic studies and implement smaller improvements sooner while longer projects follow multi-year schedules.
