Council accepts $500,000 county grant to support Huntington Beach navigation center

Huntington Beach City Council on April 21 accepted $500,000 in capital improvements funding from the county to help maintain the city’s navigation center, a facility the council credited with contributing to local reductions in homelessness and facilitating connections to services.
Councilwoman Gracie Vandermark and others described a multi-year effort to secure county support, saying prior councils had not requested similar funding and praising the county supervisor for locating resources for the city. "This partnership recognizes that homelessness is a regional challenge and it requires a regional approach," Vandermark said.
Council voted to accept the funds and thanked the navigation center staff and community partners. Mayor and council members framed the funding as recognition of the navigation center's performance and part of a continuing approach that mixes local services, task-force coordination and regional funding opportunities.
