Council names stretch of John R Street 'Bishop Evans Way' to honor longtime local pastor

The Highland Park City Council voted on May 4 to designate a segment of John R Street from McNichols to Ferris with the secondary honorary name Bishop Evans Way.
Council President Thomas read the resolution that recognizes Bishop Louis E. Evans for more than 30 years of community service as founder and senior pastor of Soul Harvest Ministries. The resolution cites the church’s services—food and clothing distribution, youth and senior programming and community events—and directs city administration to take necessary actions to install appropriate signage recognizing the honorary designation.
Members of Soul Harvest Ministries and the bishop’s family addressed the council during citizen participation to thank the council for approving the designation.
What’s next: city administration will coordinate signage installation and the council asked staff to take any required administrative steps to implement the honorary naming.
