Fulton Middle School ASB presents student life as Fountain Valley council honors Arbor Day and Neurodiagnostic Week

Students from Fulton Middle School’s Associated Student Body outlined academic projects, electives, clubs and student engagement programs during the April 20 Fountain Valley City Council meeting.

“As a student, I had a very difficult time memorizing certain notes for tests, but these teachers not only taught me to memorize these notes, but to truly understand the curriculum,” said Ayla Daca, ASB president of Fulton Middle School, as she opened the presentation about academics, electives and campus activities.

The students described hands‑on lessons such as a math project on scale factors and a science activity building balloon‑powered cars; they also summarized available electives, a variety of clubs (including chess), ASB‑run dances, the peer‑led Rockin’ Lunch program and lunchtime sports called “Newlinks.” Students said the school uses SOAR cards (earned for behavior and achievement) that can be redeemed at an on‑campus Source Store.

Mayor Jim Keneen introduced the group and invited them to the dais; council members praised the students’ public‑speaking and preparation. “You guys did a great job,” Vice Mayor Patrick Harper told the students, adding that his own children attended Fulton.

The council then read two proclamations. Mayor Keneen proclaimed April 24, 2026, as Arbor Day in Fountain Valley, citing the city’s tree program goals and environmental benefits of trees. He also proclaimed April 2026 as Neurodiagnostic Week; Amber Cervantes, chief operating officer of California Neurodiagnostic Labs, accepted the proclamation and thanked the council for raising awareness about competency and standards in the field.

The presentation and proclamations were captured on the city’s livestream; the mayor invited students, staff and families to the chambers for a photo at the meeting’s close.

The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
