Sanford marching band to perform in Philadelphia and Washington; boosters raised about $31,000

Sanford High School's band director outlined a summer trip that will take 40 of the district's 69 band students to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., where the group will march in parades, attend a Capitol Fourth concert and see the National Independence Day Parade.
Director Haley Francor described trip logistics — one coach bus, one hotel, separate floors and curfews for boys and girls, chaperones and a tour director from Music Travel Consultants — and an itinerary that includes Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and a Capitol Fourth concert with a televised fireworks display. The Philadelphia parade was moved to July 3 this year, a change the director attributed in part to large events and national scheduling.
On fundraising, Francor credited music boosters and parents with raising $30,937.29; she estimated total student-trip costs would come to about $47,847. Boosters are covering commemorative packages, embroidered duffle bags and extra uniforms, Francor said, so those costs are not passed to students. The committee thanked boosters and the director but did not vote on district funding.
The committee recorded the presentation and congratulated the band on recent state results and invitations to special consortium performances.
