Board members asked clarifying questions about the nature of the development and whether it was commercial or mixed use; Mr. Romano confirmed the project is commercial.
The board discussed that the district and township negotiated a compensation agreement tied to the TIF and that the superintendent and district negotiators had been engaged on the project since late last year. No public comments opposing the measure were recorded during the meeting.
On a roll-call vote, board members Mr. Rudy, Mrs. Spencer, Mr. Patton, Mr. Chumley and Miss Sanborn each answered "yes," and the motion passed 5–0.
The board did not provide additional detail on the length of the TIF, the compensation formula or anticipated tax revenue figures at the meeting; Mr. Romano said a compensation agreement will be attached to the project documentation. The district will receive the compensation described in that agreement rather than the tax revenues while the exemption is in force.
The approval came during a meeting that also covered retiree recognitions, student presentations and the district's broader budget timeline, which administrators said may require a ballot measure this fall to address longer-term revenue shortfalls. The board did not take further action on the budget at the May 4 meeting.
The board is scheduled to meet again May 18; any subsequent items related to the Omni Drive project or the compensation agreement would appear on future agendas.
