Fairfield County announces DOJ ADA extension and America 250 heritage tree planting

County Administrator Aundrea Cordle briefed the Fairfield County Board of Commissioners on administrative items, including an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice about ADA web accessibility deadlines and the county’s participation in the America 250–Ohio Heritage Tree Program.
Cordle said the Department of Justice has extended the compliance date for county digital services: counties with populations over 50,000 now have until April 24, 2027, and those at or below 50,000 until April 28, 2028, to bring websites and digital services into conformance with ADA standards. Cordle added the Commissioners’ portion of Fairfield County’s website already met the earlier April 24, 2026, deadline.
Cordle also announced that Fairfield County will receive a Swamp White Oak from the America 250–Ohio Heritage Tree Program in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday and scheduled a planting ceremony at noon that day at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds (the ceremony was moved to the Feeder Creek Arena because of inclement weather).
The administrator reviewed the meeting packet’s highlights, including an agenda item to change the time and location of the Aug. 25 meeting and an appointment to the Port Authority Board. Clerk Rochelle Menningen later listed community calendar items and ribbon cuttings through June 2026, and department heads provided brief updates on ongoing projects.
