Fuquay Varina manager proposes FY27 budget with 2¢ tax‑rate increase; public hearing set for May 19

Town Manager Adam Mitchell on May 4 presented the Town of Fuquay Varina’s recommended fiscal year 2027 budget and five‑year capital plan and asked the board to schedule a required public hearing for May 19.

Mitchell said the proposed general fund budget totals roughly $83 million and the water and sewer enterprise budget is just over $47 million. The recommendation includes a 37.8¢ property tax rate — a 2¢ increase from the prior year — and a $1 monthly increase to the solid waste, recycling and debris collection fee. The recommended utility rates include a 15% base and volumetric water and sewer rate increase consistent with the town’s previously adopted multiyear utility model.

A budget video shown to the board outlined priority capital investments funded by the proposed rate and tax changes: renovations to the South Park Community Center to expand senior programming and fitness space, a new park location on Kennewick Road to provide field inventory for youth sports, Fleming Loop Park improvements supported by an anticipated $4,250,000 Wake County hospitality tax grant (requiring a local match), and funding toward a fifth fire station. The video projected the average homeowner would pay about $7.67 per month under the proposed 2¢ increase, based on the town’s average assessed value.

Mitchell recommended the board approve a motion to schedule the May 19, 2026 budget public hearing (required by state statute); the board moved, seconded and approved the motion by voice vote. The budget draft and video will be posted on the town website and the public may provide feedback through the town’s "Let's Talk FV" platform ahead of the hearing.
