Council approves rezoning to allow four infill lots near Greenwich and Union

The Lafayette City Council voted unanimously on May 4 to rezone roughly one acre at the corner of Greenwich Road and Union Street from R-1 to R-1C, a change requested by petitioner Aaron Walker.
Ryan London, attorney with RTS Law representing the petitioner, said the property currently contains two single-family homes and a detached garage and that no demolition is proposed. "Therefore, this rezone would allow the petitioner to add 4 additional lots for new construction that would produce lot sizes that are generally compatible with those in the surrounding neighborhood," London said. The proposed new homes were estimated at about 1,250 square feet with three bedrooms and at least two off-street parking spaces per lot.
Area Planning Commission staff recommended approval and the APC voted unanimously on April 15 to recommend the rezoning. Council members asked questions about potential tree impacts, parking and the subdivision process; staff and the petitioner said R-1C parking standards would apply and no variances were expected. The ordinance passed by roll call, 7-0.
