The Vermillion City Council on May 4 approved a full‑service restaurant liquor license for Mamacita’s at 5 East Cherry Street provided the license fee is received by the end of business on Wednesday, May 6.
City staff reported Mamacita’s previously held malt‑beverage and farm‑wine licenses and had applied for a full‑service liquor license. Staff said background checks completed in 2024 raised no issues and administration recommended approval contingent on payment of the outstanding licensing balance. The presentation noted proceeds from an initial full‑service license sale ($95,000) would go into the general fund and annual renewal fees would be $1,500.
Council members debated whether to phrase the action as a contingent approval and agreed to adopt contingency language that the license would be issued only upon receipt of payment. “In other words, if it’s not, then the license won’t be issued,” one councilor said.
The council voted to approve the license contingent on payment by the specified deadline. Staff noted that state processing and forwarding of licenses to the state may affect timing once the city acts.
