Linn County approves resolutions allowing emergency use of county transit vehicles and up to five stops per trip

The Linn County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions introduced by Grace Kellum, the county office and transit manager, authorizing broader emergency use of county transit vehicles and an operational change to allow up to five stops per trip.
Resolution 2026-15 authorizes Emergency Management and the sheriff to call for and use county buses or vans during a national disaster to transport people or supplies, Kellum said. Resolution 2026-16 updates transit operations to permit drivers to make up to five stops on a single trip, which the transit manager said will help riders who need to run short errands before returning home.
Commissioners asked only brief clarifying questions and then moved and seconded each resolution; both carried. Kellum said the emergency-use resolution is intended to support evacuations or supply transport when state or national disasters occur, and the transit change is intended to increase service flexibility for routine rider needs.
The board did not specify additional implementation timelines during the meeting. Staff will add the resolutions to county records and operational procedures.
