Linn County commissioners approve $617,272.63 in claims, renew Esri contract and authorize staff spending

The Linn County Board of County Commissioners on May 4 approved $617,272.63 in county claims and a series of budgeted expenditures and personnel moves.

The board voted to approve the claims after a motion by the chair and a second from another commissioner. Commissioners then approved an Esri software renewal for the county GIS at $29,300 per year; Jason Parker, the county GIS administrator, told the board the amount was budgeted and not an increase from last year.

Public Works later received approval to hire Zachary Reagan as assistant director at an annual salary of $49,465 to assist with landfill and noxious-weed oversight, and commissioners approved overtime for road crews for two weeks to address storm damage cleanup. The board also accepted a Myrick Mechanical bid of $12,145 to replace the heating and cooling unit serving the 4-H building’s bathrooms and kitchen; officials said funds were available in the 4-H building budget.

Commissioners approved issuing county credit cards with a $2,500 limit each for two staff members to replace cards turned in by a departing employee, and they approved a dump-fee waiver (CD26-004) for a condemned trailer at 101 North A Street in Blue Mound.

All motions were moved, seconded and carried without recorded opposition. The meeting record shows the items were presented as budgeted and commissioners framed the votes as routine approvals of already-budgeted or previously-considered expenses.

The board recessed for candidate interviews later in the session and reported no additional fiscal action at that time.
