Schuylkill Valley board ratifies solicitor transition, building repairs and HVAC contracts; multiple motions pass unanimously

The board acknowledged an engagement change for its education solicitor: the Fox Rothschild LLP education group will become the education group of McNeese, Wallace & Nurick, LLC effective April 1, 2026, with no change to representation terms or rates. The superintendent is authorized to sign necessary documents to recognize the change. The motion to acknowledge the engagement was moved by a committee member and seconded; the board approved it 9–0.
On facilities maintenance, the board approved a $1,750 proposal from Richard Sensing Company to repair a recurring middle-school roof drain leak after snow and heavy rains produced leaking into the gymnasium bleachers. Dr. Winters told the board the district sought two quotes and chose the lower-cost vendor with prior experience addressing roof issues; the motion passed 9–0.
The board also authorized Landis Bonfido Mechanical Group to supply and install a replacement Honeywell mod motor on Boiler B at the middle school for $2,628.64. District leadership said the motor was identified during the preventive maintenance contractor’s inspection and will help the boiler run at maximum efficiency; that vote passed 9–0.
A larger facilities contract was approved to address HVAC unit-ventilator issues at the elementary school. The board approved a Trane (CoStars) quote — $99,564 — to replace 11 unit-ventilator hot-water refrigerant coils. Dr. Winters said the work relates to earlier coil failures; the district’s insurance will cover the claim minus a $25,000 property deductible and the claim will remain open while parts are ordered. The vote carried 9–0.
Each of these items was moved, seconded and passed on voice votes recorded as unanimous. The board chair closed the set of votes and returned the meeting to committee reports.
What’s next: Contracts may proceed per the authorized signatories and contingent conditions (for example, insurance claims or E-rate funding noted in other committee items).
