The Merrimack Valley School District board opened its March organizational meeting by nominating and approving new leadership for the coming year. A member nominated Tracy for board chair and the nomination was approved by voice vote; Melissa Muzzy was nominated and approved as vice chair.
The board also reappointed a slate of officers: Candy Lambert as clerk, Louise Dupree as treasurer and Katie Kieser as alternate signer. The motion to reappoint the slate was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members then reviewed and approved minutes from several February meetings after correcting minor typographical errors; member Jessica Wheeler Russell requested that her name be fixed in the warrant section. During the organizational business the board introduced new members Ryan Gund and Spencer Dickinson. Both briefly addressed the board and said they were "happy to serve the community." The board assigned Spencer and Ryan to policy and long-range planning committees and said committee chairs would be named at upcoming committee meetings. Members were reminded that committee participation can be adjusted if personal circumstances change.
Why it matters: Organizational votes determine who leads the board and which members oversee policy, finance and long-range planning — assignments that shape how the district evaluates budget proposals, policy revisions and strategic planning in the coming year. The board said finalized committee appointments will be published at the April meeting.
What’s next: Committee chairs will be selected at the next committee meetings and the board will publish final committee rosters at its April meeting.
