Edinburg proclaims March 'Theater in Our Schools Month' and names Little League field for longtime coach

The Edinburg City Council read a proclamation recognizing March 2026 as Theater in Our Schools Month, presented at the request of Jose 'JT' Gonzalez and accepted on behalf of students and educators.
The council also heard a public hearing and unanimous support from the Little League board to rename Field No. 7 at Edinburg Municipal Park in honor of Fernando de la Garza for decades of service coaching and organizing youth baseball in the city. Little League president Armando Saldadon described de la Garza as a founder who gave long service and leadership; de la Garza’s son thanked the city and Little League for the honor.
Mayor and council members praised the honorees and took formal action to approve the field renaming as part of routine public hearing items.
Council members said the recognition celebrates local volunteers and arts educators who contribute to child development and community life.
