The committee chair said the district’s sponsored finance bill had seen little movement in education finance committees and lacked a Senate author. “I still don't know as I keep checking the house and the senate, I don't see any movement of anything in the finance committee on our bill,” the chair said, and thanked staff for contacting legislators. The chair said Sen. Heintzeman had been contacted and that Rep./Sen. Grant Hauschild (as discussed) indicated a willingness to carry the bill.
Marce, a staff member, described a separate local request tied to a development agreement that originated with the City of Baxter. “It originally started with 17 owners for about 445,000. It's down to 8 owners that owe 86,000,” Marce said, and noted she did not know whether all names on the list were tied to the Wonder Trek/Wundertruck project. The committee agreed staff should notify the legislator who asked about the request that the district is evaluating it and will follow up.
The chair also reviewed bills the district is tracking for broader education funding. He referenced a seasonal/replacement aid bill and a proposal related to statewide health insurance for school employees, noting the policies could materially affect district finances and urging members to contact House allies to build support. “The policy deadline is tomorrow,” the chair said, but added deadlines are sometimes flexible and outreach remains important.
No vote or formal motion was recorded on these items. Committee members said they would continue outreach to legislators and provide additional information to lawmakers as staff compiles details.
