First‑ and second‑grade taste testers show how student voice shapes school menus

Teacher Mr. Martin told the board that a small group of students is selected each year to sample potential menu items and provide feedback to Quest, the district's food service provider: "They get to try new additions... After trying, they get to talk about what they do and do not like," he said. Students identified new items added to breakfast and lunch — including a slushy cup, fruit and yogurt parfaits, a freddo pasta dish and pizza dippers — and several students named favorites: "I would say my favorite food that I've tried so far would probably... meatballs," one student said; another said they liked the boneless chicken wings.
Trustees applauded the students and several offered to volunteer or help support the program. The presentation concluded with students distributing snack packs to board members and receiving a round of applause.
