County health update: COVID wastewater trending down; veteran services officer shares VA award story

During department updates, Miss Kelly reported that, according to the Indiana Department of Health as of March 17, COVID wastewater concentrations in the region were continuing to trend down while flu activity across the state remained high. Miss Kelly said the health department had combined influenza A/B and COVID tests available for free with walk-in hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and provided a phone number for appointments as stated in the meeting.
In a separate presentation, Steven Miller, the county veteran service officer, shared the case of a veteran he assisted who was recently granted a total disability rating by the VA for service-connected PTSD and will receive compensation at the 100% rate (reported in the meeting as about $4,000 a month). Miller described the veteran's service roles and the difficulty maintaining employment after service; he provided a county contact number (812-349-2537) and invited veterans to call for help with claims.
Commissioners thanked department staff and the veteran service office for their work and noted the local need for services for veterans and public-health outreach.
