Board accepts Rotary Club donation of three 'peace poles' for district schools

The Southampton Union Free School District board accepted a donation of three peace poles from the Rotary Club to be installed at the elementary, intermediate and high schools. Rotary representatives and Maggie Glanz, Interact Club president, described the poles and student involvement in choosing eight languages that will appear on the poles.
Glanz said the project is meant to foster inclusion and unity across schools, and she invited the community to a planned unveiling. Administration placed the donation on the consent agenda (item 12.22); the board moved the item, received a motion and second, and approved the measure during the consent portion of the meeting.
The board thanked the Rotary Club and student leaders for the donation and community engagement. The administration noted an approximate value per pole of $300–$350 as presented in the consent description.
