Commission approves additional SB‑821 awards to local bicycle and pedestrian projects

Mina Kim, planning and programming manager for state and local programs, asked the committee to approve additional SB‑821 awards after an LTF revenue revision added roughly $491,000 to the program balance.
"Staff recommends utilizing the remaining $339,000 of SB821 funds to partially fund [the ADA ramps] project and $152,000 to fully fund the Pedley Elementary and Felsford Street pedestrian improvement project," Kim said, noting staff confirmed the local agencies can use the funds and that a scaled scope would retain safety and access benefits.
Kim told commissioners the SB‑821 program is a biannual discretionary program funded by a statewide LTF sales tax allocation (2% of LTF each year) that supports local bicycle projects and master plans. The extra funds resulted from a revision to LTF revenue estimates.
Commissioners had no field public comments. A motion to award the additional funds and direct staff to prepare and amend memoranda of understanding passed on roll call.
The action directs staff to finalize MOUs and forward the amendments to the full commission for final action.
