Council authorizes application for state and local cybersecurity grant

The Green River City Council authorized the city to submit an application to the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security for the state and local cybersecurity program grant. City staff outlined up to three candidate projects for the application: isolating (air-gapping) servers at the wastewater treatment plant, providing cybersecurity training for staff, or replacing an end-of-life firewall on the city's network. Staff said the grant may require a local match of up to 25 percent, and any awarded grant agreement and required match would return to the council for formal approval.
"We are currently talking with the state about what the best option is for us to apply for," a staff speaker (S6) told the council. "We have two projects and a third that has come up since the submission of this to you... There's up to a 25% match, which would mean we would be required to provide some funds should be funded. That will come before you again."
A council motion to authorize staff to submit the application was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said they will return with recommended project selection and specific budget numbers if the city is selected and an award is offered.
