Superintendent highlights AI session for community, outreach plans and announces student’s funeral

Dr. Deshaun thanked teachers for a successful cultural arts fair and spotlighted planning for an April 8 presentation on artificial intelligence with a Millersville University guest presenter. The superintendent said the session will include an afternoon discussion with middle and high school teachers and a 6 p.m. presentation for parents and community members; light refreshments will be provided.
The superintendent also said district staff are working on outreach to cyber-charter families, developing a district profile to share later in spring, and acknowledged extracurricular successes including FFA spirit week and a Latinx club fundraiser.
Dr. Deshaun announced that Upper Adams lost Christopher Lopez, a 2025 Bigelow Grove High School graduate, in a training accident at Letterkenny Army Depot. A public viewing is scheduled at the Bigelow Grove High School Auditorium on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service to follow at 1 p.m. The superintendent said district supports are in place for students and staff and offered condolences to the Lopez family.
Board members and staff thanked administrators for the report and noted the community presentation and outreach plans.
The superintendent's report included several operational notes (funding adjustments forthcoming from the state in 2–3 weeks, and an after-school Title I program at Bigelow Elementary serving approximately 35–38 students).
