Roseville proclaims May 9 as Letter Carriers Food Drive Day

Robert McGuire, the food-drive coordinator and a Roseville carrier for more than two decades, described how residents can participate: leave a bag or card at the mailbox and the carriers will pick up nonperishable food on the designated day. McGuire told the council that Macomb County donated over 225,000 pounds of food in 2025 and that the one-day campaign is a major source of donations for the Macomb Food Program.
"Please donate. It doesn't matter if it's one can," McGuire said, urging neighbors to check expiration dates and give usable items. The council and staff asked residents not to donate expired items and encouraged volunteers and participation.
Charmaine Austin was named during remarks as the new Roseville postmaster; the council congratulated post office staff and encouraged residents to take part in the drive.
The proclamation and remarks were part of the council's agenda on April 24; logistics such as bag distribution and a local drop-off box were described on the record.
