Douglas County board approves contracts, licenses, hires and routine procurement items

Personnel and labor: The board approved a two‑year LELS law enforcement supervisors contract and a two‑year correctional officers contract; each includes a 3% general wage adjustment and reactivation of a longevity benefit. A county official (identified in the meeting as Troy) asked permission to hire a deputy sheriff at step 3 (pay grade 10) to reflect lateral pay trends; the board approved the hiring.
Licenses and permits: The board approved landscape and excavator licenses, a transfer station license for Viking Recycling, and a permit for Red Willow Arts collect Coalition to use the courthouse lawn for its 18th season. Licensing staff also presented and the board approved a name change request for the Melby Outpost liquor license; the sheriff and county attorney had cleared the new owners' background checks.
