Commission approves conditional‑use permit for small auto‑sales unit, requires striping and fire‑code compliance

The Murray City Planning Commission voted March 19 to approve a conditional‑use permit for an auto‑sales business to operate from Unit 16 at 5585 South Commerce Drive, a unit of roughly 600 square feet inside a two‑acre industrial complex.

Planner David Rogers told commissioners the proposed use is allowed in the Manufacturing General zone (land‑use number cited by staff) and that four parking stalls — one interior display stall and three exterior spots — were proposed. Staff’s site visit on March 12 found the site’s interior parking is faded and unstriped; staff recommended the applicant stripe all parking areas before the city issues a business license.

Commissioners asked whether vehicle repair or maintenance would be part of the proposed use. Rogers and other staff said the application was for auto sales only and that the fire department’s review recommended no on‑site repair for the project as proposed; vehicle repair is a permitted use in some MG locations but would require separate approvals and a different review for fire‑safety compliance.
