Greenlee County authorizes bids for 2026 chip-seal project covering Duncan and fairgrounds

Greenlee County’s board authorized staff March 17 to solicit bids for the county’s 2026 chip-seal pavement project, which includes roads in the Duncan area, work at the fairgrounds and several other county routes.
Michael Gein, the county roads assistant manager, told the board the package requests roughly 2,800–3,000 tons of 3/8" fractured chips, oil emulsion and striping work. He reviewed the roads list and said the town of Duncan will pay for three town roads included on the list and will reimburse the county for associated labor and equipment costs where applicable.
Acting Public Works staff explained that the bid authorization covers the chips, oil and striping as a single procurement; once bids are returned staff will bring contract recommendations back to the board for award. The motion to give permission to go out for bid passed by voice vote.
No contractors were selected at the meeting; procurement will proceed to receiving bids, evaluation and a future award vote. Staff estimated the chip tonnage in the solicitation and said the final quantities and awards will be set after bid returns and funding confirmation.
