Commissioners approve appointments, small grants and administrative items in Dec. 2 meeting

At its Dec. 2 meeting the Athens County Board of Commissioners approved multiple consent and administrative items, including board appointments, small community grants and travel requests.
The board appointed Courtney Lefebvre Little to the Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau with a term through June 30, 2027, and approved a $1,000 2026 ACT grant application for the Village of Amesville to support a mural and kiosk project. The board also acknowledged receipt of DRETAC fund reports from the Prosecuting Attorney and Treasurer and approved Area 14 Workforce Development Board appointments (Melissa Shepherd and Kimberly Foreman). Commissioner Chmiel was appointed as the county representative to United Seniors with administrator follow-up to confirm the full roster.
Other routine approvals included travel for County Engineer Donnie Stevens and Maintenance staff to CCAO/CEAO winter conferences, and a letter of support sent to the Open Space Institute for a Rural Action/Athens Conservancy grant proposal. The board also suspended the rules to add an annexation response and approved releasing approximately 1.175 acres along Theater Lane into the City of Athens pending a maintenance agreement with Athens Township. Commissioners noted a call about a 1995 landfill lease and asked staff to locate the lease for review.
Votes on the consent items recorded unanimous roll-call approval by Commissioners Eliason, Chmiel and Adkins.
