Commissioners authorize emergency payment to renew county GreyKey forensics license

The Board of Athens County Commissioners authorized an emergency payment to renew the county's GreyKey digital forensics license at the Jan. 27 meeting after Prosecutor Keller Blackburn explained the urgency.
Blackburn told commissioners the prosecutor's office now handles countywide phone extractions for investigations and that costs are allocated between the prosecutor, the sheriff and the Athens Police Department, with the prosecutor's office covering roughly half of the license cost. Blackburn said the license expired Jan. 9 and renewal was delayed because the County's FOJ check issuance and posted transfers had not yet cleared accounting, creating a short timing gap.
Commissioner Charlie Adkins moved to authorize an emergency payment; Commissioner Chris Chmiel seconded the motion. The roll call vote was recorded: Mr. Eliason, yea; Mr. Chmiel, yea; Mr. Adkins, yea.
