Jean Demosky, director of Athens County Department of Job and Family Services, updated commissioners on program and facility matters on Jan. 27, including upcoming SNAP work‑requirement notices, facility space planning for the 510 Building, and contract-signature status for Title IV‑D domestic relations services.
Demosky said notices are being sent to SNAP recipients newly subject to the work requirement (ages 54–64 and families with children under 18) and that qualifying work activities or work hours must total about 80 hours per month. To support compliance, the agency plans to scale job‑readiness programs, trainings and micro‑credentials. She reviewed a rental/cost‑allocation framework for the 510 Building based on FTEs and square footage and noted interest in using the veterans front suite where front parking and signage are available.
She also briefed the board on a 90‑day post‑auction disposition window for building sales that extends to about April 4, and said the Title IV‑D contract is near completion but awaiting signatures. Commissioner Adkins raised concerns about recent media coverage implying widespread layoffs and asked Demosky to coordinate communications with The Messenger. The board entered executive session at 10:41 a.m. to discuss real‑estate matters with DJFS leadership and returned to regular session at 10:53 a.m. with no action taken.
