Marietta council appoints municipal prosecutors and formalizes chief assistant position
Summary
At its Jan. 14 meeting the council appointed Benjamin Smith as prosecuting attorney (7–0), appointed Courtney Brubaker as chief assistant prosecuting attorney (6–1), and amended the city code to formally create the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney title (waived second reading, 7–0).
The council used the Jan. 14 meeting to confirm routine personnel actions and to codify an assistant‑chief prosecuting position.
Council voted 7–0 to appoint Benjamin Smith as prosecuting attorney of municipal court for a two‑year term. The council subsequently appointed Courtney Brubaker as chief assistant prosecuting attorney for a two‑year term; that motion passed 6–1. During discussion staff noted the proposed ordinance simply adds the chief assistant title to Code Sec. 112.040; council moved, and unanimously approved, adding the ordinance to the agenda and waiving a second reading so the code change could be adopted at the meeting.
Council congratulated the appointees and directed that Brubaker be put to work following the confirmation.
