The Board of Allen County Commissioners on March 19 approved several transportation and sanitary‑infrastructure items. The County Engineer requested and the board authorized posting load limits on the Hay Road Bridge to restrict heavy vehicles (Resolution #198‑26); the motion was approved unanimously.
The Sanitary Engineer presented permanent easement documents for the Hamlet of Hume Sanitary Sewer Project. The board accepted an easement from Kaylee Murphy and John Plummer (Resolution #199‑26) and later accepted an easement from Joann Yoakam (Resolution #200‑26); both were approved unanimously.
Bid openings were held (and one postponed): the bid opening for the Columbus Grove–Bluffton Road Bridge was postponed to March 26, 2026. At 1:15 p.m. the board opened bids for the supply, delivery and erection of prestressed concrete box beams for the Begg Road Bridge. The engineer’s estimate was $122,500; bids received included R & I Construction, Inc. ($112,952.00), R. G. Zachrich Construction, Inc. ($113,699.95), Eagle Bridge Co. ($126,875.00) and The Crawford Construction Co. Inc. ($134,499.96). The minutes record the bids but do not show award action at this meeting.
Commissioners also viewed the proposed road vacation for B Street in Shawnee Township as part of preparation for an upcoming hearing; no formal decision on the vacation was made at this session.
Next steps: load‑limit signs to be posted on Hay Road Bridge; sanitary‑project easements to be recorded; bid evaluation and award for Begg Road Bridge beams to follow procurement procedures; Columbus Grove–Bluffton Road Bridge bids to be opened at the rescheduled time.
