The board approved a variance permitting Daniel and Megan Eaton to construct a detached accessory structure of about 2,688 square feet at 550 South K Street, exceeding the 1,800-square-foot limit in the zoning code.
Staff explained that the lot is 5.74 acres, the proposed building would be sited roughly 165 feet from the front property line and screened by an established row of mature trees. "The request is to allow, for a building that's approximately 2,688 square feet where the maximum allowable size is 1,800 square feet," the staff member said, adding that no correspondence for or against the request had been received after notices were mailed on 04/21/2026.
The applicant said the structure will use color-matched metal siding to visually match the residence and that it will primarily store equipment and personal vehicles. "Same color, same material," the applicant said when describing the exterior finish, and later added that he runs a business but "does not plan on running the business out of there." Staff confirmed an ingress/egress easement exists to provide access to the landlocked parcel.
A member moved to approve the variance as presented and the motion carried after roll-call votes recorded affirmative responses from several members.
